How should you approach the design or redesign of your courses for online delivery? Through an examination of the ten basic questions of online course redesign, we will begin the process of reconceiving face‐to‐face courses for online teaching and learning environments by addressing the following questions:
- What is the ‘big picture’ of online course design and what logistical items must be considered?
- Create or curate? What are appropriate types of content delivery for building learning communities with a focus on adopting effective practices of discussion and engagement online
- How is student learning and assessment addressed within online course design?
- How should online courses be evaluated for their effectiveness?
- How should faculty and students stay organized and to manage new or redefined workloads for online course?
This workshop will also introduce participants to tools within Canvas, the course management system of UT-Austin, and tools that can be used within Canvas to help facilitate online course design and delivery.
Participants will also be introduced to a Deeper Dive Instructional Guide (DDIG) that will act as a guide through the course design process. The "Architecting Online Courses" DDIG was conceptualized and built with significant input from associate professor Matt Fajkus (School of Architecture), whose Tree House project inspired our approach to supporing online course design and delivery.
