Have you started your day by discovering a crime has been committed on or near campus (and involves one of the students or a colleague)? Has a student ever made a racist comment in class during an open discussion? Both situations represent moments in the classroom where we’re not sure how to react. But they are not the same. Learning how to manage challenging topics we’ve brought up in our classes is slightly different than waking in the morning to find that something unexpected has unfolded.

Please consider joining a conversation with other faculty about unpleasant surprises in the classroom. Hosted by Dr. Diane Rhodes (SSW) as part of her research for her Provost Teaching Fellowship. If interested, please contact abattaglia@austin.utexas.edu to sign up for one of the following conversation dates:

  • Option 1: Friday, February 15th, 2:30-4pm in SZB 450H, or
