COERLL will be hosting a discussion-based webinar next week on the topic of creating digital, openly licensed educational resources with students. We’ll hear from three educators who have worked with undergrads to create OER for their classes. This is a popular topic in the open education community but I think it could be interesting for any instructor who wants to increase their students’ engagement.

About the presenters' projects:
Kelly Arispe and Amber Hoye lead the Pathways OER Language Teaching Repository, an initiative from the Boise State University Department of World Languages. It's an open and collaborative network of instructional materials and professional development created by and uniquely for Idaho’s K-16 language teachers and students. Participating teachers and students come from different fields of study to create open digital activities that support the teaching and learning of foreign languages and promote intercultural competence.
Kathryn Murphy-Judy is part of a team of faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University who have developed an open, connected platform where 202 students curate – search, select, and share – authentic materials online and discuss their work in virtual exchanges with native speakers. Upper-level students help triage and scaffold the best curations into online interactive modules, with an eventual goal of integrating the materials into a a series of open textbooks.
