October 2019

We hope you're settling in to productive and enjoyable routines. So...what happens when things do not go as planned?

"What Just Happened?"

Responding to unexpected classroom moments (10/8) and creating inclusive learning

environments (10/9) will provide practical strategies you can implement right away.

BONUS: Watch our video about dominant students if that is relevant to you.

ITL Registration Opens Oct. 7

Make plans to RSVP for the fourth bi-annual Inclusive Teaching and Learning Symposium taking place on November 4. This symposium will focus on creating sustainable culture change in our work around diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Mid-Semester Feedback

October is a great month to solicit feedback from students. Graduatestudents can attend the TPS session this Friday (10/4). The FIC also offers web resources about the Whys and Hows for collecting feedback.

Active Learning

The FIC workshop (10/17) and PTF Think Tank (10/24) this month focus on identifying and implementing active learning strategies. The workshop will be hands-on, while the think tank is a safe space to talk with colleagues.

EL: Autonomy Oct. 25

How much autonomy do we give students on a project and what kind of structures can we provide to help them through the process? Attend part two of the Experiential Learning fall series to find solutions.
