The Center for Teaching and Learning and UT’s Public Speaking Center present a new Canvas resource designed to help UT students improve their public speaking skills. The Oral Competency Resources for Students is designed to take students through the presentation development process from audience analysis to confident delivery. This self-paced module contains guided activities, tips, and external resources for students to explore.

Rachel Jenkins is the Coordinator of the Public Speaking Center and Outreach Programs at the Sanger Learning Center and contributor to this project: “After we launched the Deeper Dive Instructional Guide on Teaching Oral Competency in Fall 2019, several faculty members inquired about a Canvas resource for their students. In addition to encouraging students to visit the Public Speaking Center, faculty can imbed this module directly into their Canvas course as a supplement for students who need public speaking support. This course is designed to help every UT student hone their presentation skills, regardless of college, major, or classification.”

UT Austin instructors can log in to UT Canvas and then access the module in Canvas Commons to embed in their Fall 2020 courses.
