New Faculty Symposium 2019

The members of the UT Austin Administration, the Provost’s Teaching Fellows, and the Faculty Innovation Center will host the 39th Annual New Faculty Symposium August 20-21, 2019. The purpose of the symposium is to share the university’s integrated approach to research, teaching, and service shaped by our culture of innovation and excellence. We look forward to welcoming you into our community of teacher-scholars and the greater Longhorn family!

Tuesday, August 20 Activities

  • The majority of the day will take place in the Student Activity Center
  • New Faculty will enjoy remarks from President Fenves
  • Interactive sessions covering the following topics:
    • Becoming familiar with the UT student community
    • UT Austin's approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion
    • Teaching to maximize student learning
    • Research opportunities and support
    • Promotion & Tenure
  • Lunch at a gem of the University
  • Reception hosted by the President to wrap up the day

Wednesday, August 21 Activities 

  • Light movement opportunities to start the day
  • New faculty will enjoy remarks from Provost McInnis
  • Resource fair with units offering faculty support services
  • Interactive sessions covering the following topics:
    • Who our students become
    • Practical teaching tips
    • Employee/student wellness
  • Lunch hosted by UT Athletics
  • Optional afternoon workshops on topics such as:
    • Creating syllabi
    • Setting up Canvas (UT Austin's online platform for grades and course content)
